Production Log 7

During this week of media studies, me and my group partner dedicated time to complete our music video. we had until Wednesday to fully complete editing our music video, to make sure this was fully completed we stayed back all days after school till Wednesday night and we finished our music video in time for the deadline. The week went on quite well as we stuck to editing our video to the fullest of our ability. it went well because the video had already been put in order as the draft version was due the previous week. This week we were adding effects in such as 'fades' and we put in the shots that we filmed in the previous weekend into the gaps that we had in the timeline. We also re-watched the video a few times to see if the lip syncing was off at any point and when it was, we worked on sorting it out and got that done. After that all happened the video was fully completed and this got us to the next lesson which was on Thursday. The lesson on Thursday was a lesson on the new unit that we will be working on throughout the next few weeks and we spent the lesson learning about what it is about and what is required from us to get the best possible grade. the next lesson was on Friday and we had to do many tasks on this day as we had to upload our music video on to You Tube and we had to check the coursework grid and see if we were missing any coursework and if so, we had to get the done and put them on the blogger and we have till next Thursday to make sure that is fully complete. As the week went on, we didn't come into contact with any problems that would come in the way of stopping our process of editing.

Production Log 6

During this week of media studies, me and my partner spent most of the lessons editing out music video as we have still got till next thursday to finish out music video completely. We edited the video as much as we could and we found out on monday that the lesson on thursday will be dedicated to the whole class going around and watching each others music videos. By doing this is it did not mean that it would be our fully complete music video that the whole class would be watching however it was only supposed to be a draft version so that the teacher could see the progress in our work. The class had to watch each others pieces and give feedback as groups onto a sheet that was left on each computer, we were told that we should give critical feedback to others and our own so that everyone can understand where they went wrong and what they could improve on. After thursdays lesson our next lesson was on friday 7 and 8, in this lesson we had Mr Philipson come to each group individually and watch our draft videos and tell us what we could have improved on. For our piece there was some certain areas which needed improvements such as our intro as it was too long and we also needed to fill in the gaps between the shots as there were many gaps. Me and my partner dedicated the weekend to refilm our intro and make a whole lot of close ups to fill in the gaps which were ruining the video. The week went on without any problems as it went quite smoothly. The next week will result in editing a lot as we will be staying back everyday after school to edit as the editing deadline is on thursday.

Production Log 5

During this week of Media Studies, the class started to edit our music videos properly and by this I mean, adding all of the shots and music onto the Imacs. To do this we had to refer to the last week as we were learning about how to use the new program Final Cut Express and we had to use the logic that we learnt from the previous week and put it into performance this week as we had to start editing our videos. It was relatively hard at first to get used to however I got the hang of it. To start the editing process we had to import all of our footage on to the program, then the next process we chose to fulfill was to put all of the footage that we had in order and this made the process of editing much easier as whilst we're are editing shots we won't need to keep adding different scenes in order as we have already done that at first. The next thing me and my group partner did was we started cutting some of the shots to the appropriate lengths as they should be in tact with the shooting script. That is mostly what we got up to as the week went by, we didn't really come in contact with any problems throughout the week and the next week will result in editing again and creating a draft edit to show the class.

Production Log 4

During this week of media studies, the class had to carry on finishing their music video and me and my group partner finished our music video. The week went on with us dedicating a few days to finishing the video so it could be done before the deadline. Whilst we were taking part in media lessons at school, we were asking to start editing the shots that we had done so far, this was a good aspect because we got a hint of how the next two weeks of media lessons will be as they will all be dedicated to editing the music video to make it look good and professional. As we were going to start editing we found out by our teachers that we will no longer be using the programme called Imovie to edit filmed scenes anymore and that we wil start using a newer application called Final Cut Express on the Imac's. This was a surprise to me as I was pretty used to using the Imovie programme and this newer programme was quite hard to get used to and I am still not yet fully used to it as I have only used it for one lesson however as time goes by I will hopefully get the hang of the programme as I did with Imovie. As the week went by me and my group partner finished shooting our music video after much hard work. We did receive some problems once again as the week progressed as there were still a few people that dropped out on a few occasions however we still managed to complete it in time for the deadline. The following week will result in us editing the work that we have fulfilled and this will go on for roughly two weeks.

Production Log 3

During this week of media studies, me and my group partner started filming our music video. Before we actually started filming during the week we went to visit the locations that we were going to use to shoot the video, we went to see if the locations were still in tact and in good conditions for us to film and they were which was a good and positive aspect. After we visited the locations we started filming our music videos. On some days there was a lot of hassle as sometimes people would drop out because they were busy or ill and this resulted in us filming very late during the week. When we did get to film, we managed to get quite a lot of filming done. I cannot include any photographs or videos in this Production Log as my group partner has the memory card which contains the filming that we have done so far. As the week went by we did infact come into contact with certain problems which effected our work as sometimes there were people that were casted dropping out at the last minute due to illness or simply being busy. This slowed down the process of filming by a few days and was not a good aspect. As we have not yet fully finished the music video filming, next week we will continue to film the music video and finish it by the deadline date which is the 3rd of March which is next sunday.

Production Log 2

During this week of Media studies work, me and my other group member that I was paired with started on the shooting script which is a script that contains all of the shots that will be included in the music video. The shooting script also contains different columns which were required to be completed such as the shot number, location, the shot type such as long shots, mid shots and close ups, the camera angle, movement, length of the shot, the lyric that is being heard in each shot, the description of the actions that are occuring whilst the shot is happening, the actors that are included in each shot and the equipment that was used in the process of filming the music video.

Above is a screenshot of one of the six pages used for the shooting script. Ideally the minimum amount of shots that we are meant to produce is a hundred shots which is a fairly good amount. Me and my group partner split the task of producing the shooting script in half and decided to do fifty shots each. In the end we ended up making a hundred and fourteen shots. As the week went on, we didn't come in contact with any problems as it was a smooth going week. The next week consists of going to shoot the video.

Permission To Film

The locations that my group is using to film all the scenes from our music video production are:
  • School Studio
  • Park
  • Streets
  • Bedroom
  • Alleyway
  • Central London
As you can see, the majority of these locations do not need to provide us with permission to film as most of them are local areas where you can work freely, such as the park, the park is a free area where people go to do their own thing, to stop something doing their own thing a free area would be pretty wrong. We did ask the music department if we could use the music studio and they agreed and gave us full permission to use the school studio whenever we wished in our filming time. The only problem is central London and we could not travel to london in the past few days to ask for permission however I believe that we may still be able to film as we won't be causing any disturbances as we will be doing our own thing.

Job Roles & Responsbilities

For the whole music video production, there will be four roles divided into two for each person in the group. The two roles that I will take up are the director of the music video and the Production Manager. I will be playing these two roles because I have had experiences with the both in the past. As I will be playing the role of the director, it means that I will be organising everything the way it should be, meaning I will place the cast members exactly where they should be and doing exactly what they should be as well. I will be guiding the technical crew and telling them what to do and how it should be done. I will also be playing the role of the production manager which is the person who plans and co-ordinates everything else.
I believe that I am the right person to fulfil these roles because I am a hard working person and I can get a lot of jobs done quickly meaning I will not be wasting any time as time is a very important priority during this filming process.

Production Schedule

Production Log

In this week of Media studies, the class started on a range of different tasks for the music video that we are going to produce very soon. We started the week off by having the first lesson on Monday and in that lesson we were set a task to fulfill and that task was to get a group partner that you would like to work with to make the music video together, for this aspect I chose my classmate Anil and this was because he's a very trustworthy person and his song was similar to mine as they are both called 'Changes' and both about relationships. We ended up choosing his song because it was more slowly paced and we felt that we could get a message across with a slower paced song.

Above is a link to the video that me and Anil made talking about why we chose his song, why we chose to work together, if there was any similarities between our songs and if we thought we'd find any difficulties working together.
In the next lesson with Mr Clarke we were provided with many sheets that we were required to complete in the next week, the sheets that we were provided were a Call Sheet, a Production schedule sheet, a risk assessment sheet and a waiver for cast sheet. Thee sheets are required to be completed as they are all associated with the music video.
In the last two lessons of the week we had Mr Philipson and in those two lessons we were required to do two different tasks. In the first lesson we fully planned out our music video and this means we established the full idea as to what was going to occur in each verse and chorus including the intro and outro. Then in the last lesson of the week with Mr Philipson we started to fill in a shot sheet in Microsoft Excel, in this document we had to start filling in what's going to happen in every single shot of the video, as we made a start we have not yet finished it as we have a few lessons dedicated to this task.

Above is a picture of the video plan that I took from my phone. It is a sheet that is based on what is going to occur in the intro, all the verses and choruses and the outro. As you can see the sheet is only half way complete and this is because our song only has two verses and two choruses hence only the verse one, chorus 1, verse 2, chorus and intro being completed.
As the production schedule is not yet completed I can still say that it all fit in as we got the work that was due in that week completed.
As the week went on, we did not come in contact with any problems that would effect our work as the week went smooth and efficiently.
The following week will consist of us completing the shot sheet with our group partners and we will will also complete all of the other sheets that we are required to complete.

Pitch Reflection

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give any more detail on?

Yes I believe that there are areas of my presentation that I would like to give more detail on. The main areas would be, being more enthusiastic when I am presenting my pitch, I say this because during my pitch I believe that I was quite laid back. So if I was to do my presentation again I would much like to add more enthusiasm into my presentation as it shows a lot of respect and good work.

What did your audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?

The audience identified the brand identity being used in the song as a strength of the video as the artist creates a good gesture when he raps the main lyric of the song. The audience did identify the two rappers as a strength as they both fit the roles.

What did your audience identify as areas for imorovement?

The audience identified that the locations were very minimal meaning that I should add more locations into my video. They also identified that I should add more cast members into the video as I only had two people appearing in the video which is very minimal to find in a normal music video.

What changes will you make to your music video concept based on the feedback you received?

The changes that I will make to my music video concept based on the feedback that I received will most likely be changing the story line of what goes on in the video as my story line for the video was very basic, as it was basic it meant that it wouldn't really make a well made music video as it would look quite boring and simple, so I will change the story line and put more time into thinking of as better concept, I will also make different changes as I will add more locations to be used in the video as I only have two locations being used in my video, the more locations the more entertaining and well made the project will look.

Creating My Artist's Identity

Artist:
Inflowential

Artists name:

Inflowential

Record Label:
Unsigned

Facts:
Location:

Gender: Males

Ethnicity: White and Black

Age:20-35

History:

"Having recently released their first album, the Inflow EP (Evolutionary Process), Inflowential is one of the foremost live acts in NC"
Clothing preferences:
The clothes that I would like the artist to wear would be smart/quite casual clothes such as;
  • Jeans or trousers
  •
  • T-shirts and Jumpers or shirts

    • Trainers or shoes:

      Jackets or blazers:

I have used these types of clothings becuase I would like my artist to look slightly casual and smart at the same time. I believe that this would make a good aspect as it is different, you'd normally expect to find an artist with a fixed costume set in their music video meaning they wear the same thing throughout and in my videos case the artist could be changing their costume throughout the song and this would show that it wants to show more affection and meaning to the video.

      Typography:

      Konanur Kaps Regular
      Kramer Regular

      Lettres ombrees ornees Regular
      Medici Text Regular

      Monument Regular

I have chosen these 5 fonts because I like them the most out of all the other fonts I have researched. The fonts look very detailed and and create attention as they look very sharp. As the websites I used to make these fonts did not use colour, in the video I will have the actual font have different colours for each word to look entertaining and also by changing colour it will also show references to the songs name which is 'Changes'.

      Mise-en-scene and Imagery:

As the locations would start off dark, I would like to firstly show a dark location whilst the rapper is rapping and for the imagery it would sort of make the audience feel quite sad as a dark location would refer to sad thoughts.
In this image we see a dark location being brightened with street lights, I would like one of my rapper rapping on this kind of location to make it look very detailed and make the rapper look like they are glowing.

This picture is of the city of Boston, as the rapper raps 'don't get lost in Boston' it could result in the audience thinking about the city and how it looks.

As the song gets to the midway point I would like the locations to somehow get a bit brighter showing that the mood had also brightened. Even though the song stays on the same aim which is 'changes' I would like the video to show many changes so it associates with the name and meaning of the song.

      Colours:

I would somehow like all of these colours to be shown in the music video as they are all quite bright colours. As the song is about changes that go on in life, I am thinking to make the colours associate with the changes that go on in life. The colours could be changing throughout the song to emphasise changes.

      Photo of the artist:

      Anil VaghelaPhoto

I have chosen these two friends of mine to be the artists in the music video. As there will be two separate artists rapping their own verses, these two people will rap the two artists verses. They are both very good at lip synching and also have vague acting skills which will help for the video. Their names are Anil Vaghela and Abdullah Dayah.
