Production Log 3

During this week of media studies, me and my group partner started filming our music video. Before we actually started filming during the week we went to visit the locations that we were going to use to shoot the video, we went to see if the locations were still in tact and in good conditions for us to film and they were which was a good and positive aspect. After we visited the locations we started filming our music videos. On some days there was a lot of hassle as sometimes people would drop out because they were busy or ill and this resulted in us filming very late during the week. When we did get to film, we managed to get quite a lot of filming done. I cannot include any photographs or videos in this Production Log as my group partner has the memory card which contains the filming that we have done so far. As the week went by we did infact come into contact with certain problems which effected our work as sometimes there were people that were casted dropping out at the last minute due to illness or simply being busy. This slowed down the process of filming by a few days and was not a good aspect. As we have not yet fully finished the music video filming, next week we will continue to film the music video and finish it by the deadline date which is the 3rd of March which is next sunday.

Production Log 2

During this week of Media studies work, me and my other group member that I was paired with started on the shooting script which is a script that contains all of the shots that will be included in the music video. The shooting script also contains different columns which were required to be completed such as the shot number, location, the shot type such as long shots, mid shots and close ups, the camera angle, movement, length of the shot, the lyric that is being heard in each shot, the description of the actions that are occuring whilst the shot is happening, the actors that are included in each shot and the equipment that was used in the process of filming the music video.

Above is a screenshot of one of the six pages used for the shooting script. Ideally the minimum amount of shots that we are meant to produce is a hundred shots which is a fairly good amount. Me and my group partner split the task of producing the shooting script in half and decided to do fifty shots each. In the end we ended up making a hundred and fourteen shots. As the week went on, we didn't come in contact with any problems as it was a smooth going week. The next week consists of going to shoot the video.

Permission To Film

The locations that my group is using to film all the scenes from our music video production are:
  • School Studio
  • Park
  • Streets
  • Bedroom
  • Alleyway
  • Central London
As you can see, the majority of these locations do not need to provide us with permission to film as most of them are local areas where you can work freely, such as the park, the park is a free area where people go to do their own thing, to stop something doing their own thing a free area would be pretty wrong. We did ask the music department if we could use the music studio and they agreed and gave us full permission to use the school studio whenever we wished in our filming time. The only problem is central London and we could not travel to london in the past few days to ask for permission however I believe that we may still be able to film as we won't be causing any disturbances as we will be doing our own thing.

Job Roles & Responsbilities

For the whole music video production, there will be four roles divided into two for each person in the group. The two roles that I will take up are the director of the music video and the Production Manager. I will be playing these two roles because I have had experiences with the both in the past. As I will be playing the role of the director, it means that I will be organising everything the way it should be, meaning I will place the cast members exactly where they should be and doing exactly what they should be as well. I will be guiding the technical crew and telling them what to do and how it should be done. I will also be playing the role of the production manager which is the person who plans and co-ordinates everything else.
I believe that I am the right person to fulfil these roles because I am a hard working person and I can get a lot of jobs done quickly meaning I will not be wasting any time as time is a very important priority during this filming process.

Production Log

In this week of Media studies, the class started on a range of different tasks for the music video that we are going to produce very soon. We started the week off by having the first lesson on Monday and in that lesson we were set a task to fulfill and that task was to get a group partner that you would like to work with to make the music video together, for this aspect I chose my classmate Anil and this was because he's a very trustworthy person and his song was similar to mine as they are both called 'Changes' and both about relationships. We ended up choosing his song because it was more slowly paced and we felt that we could get a message across with a slower paced song.

Above is a link to the video that me and Anil made talking about why we chose his song, why we chose to work together, if there was any similarities between our songs and if we thought we'd find any difficulties working together.
In the next lesson with Mr Clarke we were provided with many sheets that we were required to complete in the next week, the sheets that we were provided were a Call Sheet, a Production schedule sheet, a risk assessment sheet and a waiver for cast sheet. Thee sheets are required to be completed as they are all associated with the music video.
In the last two lessons of the week we had Mr Philipson and in those two lessons we were required to do two different tasks. In the first lesson we fully planned out our music video and this means we established the full idea as to what was going to occur in each verse and chorus including the intro and outro. Then in the last lesson of the week with Mr Philipson we started to fill in a shot sheet in Microsoft Excel, in this document we had to start filling in what's going to happen in every single shot of the video, as we made a start we have not yet finished it as we have a few lessons dedicated to this task.

Above is a picture of the video plan that I took from my phone. It is a sheet that is based on what is going to occur in the intro, all the verses and choruses and the outro. As you can see the sheet is only half way complete and this is because our song only has two verses and two choruses hence only the verse one, chorus 1, verse 2, chorus and intro being completed.
As the production schedule is not yet completed I can still say that it all fit in as we got the work that was due in that week completed.
As the week went on, we did not come in contact with any problems that would effect our work as the week went smooth and efficiently.
The following week will consist of us completing the shot sheet with our group partners and we will will also complete all of the other sheets that we are required to complete.
